Blue Castle Experience

Our museum is sponsoring a once-only Blue Castle Experience on Wednesday, July 26, for a limited number of kindred spirits and others who love the Blue Castle and want to learn more about how a Bala holiday in 1922 inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery to write her Muskoka love story. The day-long program will include a 90-minute chartered boat cruise that will take you to the island that became Barney’s island in the book. An antique car tour will take you to sites and locations that became part of the book. Click here to learn more about a day that will bring the Blue Castle alive for you.

Always one of the most popular events at the Bala Cranberry Festival

Left: 2016 winner, eleven-year-old Madison Searle from Huntsville.
Madison, who fell in love with the story of Anne of Green Gables at an early age, impressed Cran-Anne judges Marg Durnford and Jennifer Burrows with her knowledge of the book but even more so with her infectious enthusiasm. Marg Dunford, a former school librarian/teacher and long-time Bala cottager, said later she almost felt as if she was talking to Anne.
