Museum Group & Bus Tours

We have a lot of fun with our bus tours at Bala’s Museum. The photo at right shows us welcoming a group of retired Polish seniors as our final bus tour in 2013. They were amazed when Jack played the Polish national anthem inside the museum and jumped to their feet to sing it at the top of their lungs. We also welcome more informal family groups like the three generations who are in the second photo. On that day, the host family from Toronto brought visiting relatives from Sri Lanka up to Bala in three crowded cars. We had a wonderful hour or 90 minutes with them! The important thing is to phone ahead. If you do that, we can arrange your own special time in our weekly schedule, including mornings.

Group tours of 25 or more will receive a 25% discount on their admission. Contact us for details.

Jack and Linda Hutton jump onto the bus the moment you arrive to welcome you. Minutes later, you feel as if you’d known them all your life!

After talking to you, Jack and Linda will usually split the group into two. One group goes with Linda. The other goes with Jack.

Linda takes her group upstairs for a talk on the Life and Times of Lucy Maud Montgomery. Her group will see one of the world’s best public collections of L.M. Montgomery’s books (some say it is the best). They will also see Montgomery’s silver tea set and the boat that sank under Megan Follows in the Anne of Green Gables TV movie.

Jack shows his group the 1920s kitchen (it always creates a flood of memories!) and then takes them into the front room for an old-fashioned sing-along. As an international ragtime pianist, Jack can play everything from The Maple Leaf Rag to Broadway tunes or sing-along favorites. Jack, who is a local church pianist/organist, is often asked to do hymn sings.

Bala Museum Gift Shop

Finally, everyone will want time to browse through the museum’s Anne of Green Gables gift shop. It is definitely the best outside P.E.I. and one of the best in all Canada.

For those who enjoy gardens, there is always time to admire the museum’s perennial gardens. Or you can sit on the large verandah, enjoying the country flowers that attract amateur painters and photographers from far away. Cold drinks are available for sale in the gift shop.

IMPORTANT: Please arrange your group tour well in advance. We can help plan your package for the day, i.e. arranging other local attractions for that same day and booking great places for lunch. Group leaders and bus drivers always have free admission. Call or e-mail us to discuss details.
