A MESSAGE FROM JACK AND LINDA March 7, 2022
Two years ago at the beginning of the pandemic we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary (see photo above). Right now we are looking at the 30th anniversary of our museum which we will be celebrating all summer long. This will be a summer of anniversaries because Lucy Maud Montgomery came to Bala 100 years ago for a two-week holiday that inspired her to write The Blue Castle, set entirely in Muskoka.
LMM fell in love with Bala. She wrote in her diary: “Bala is a dear spot – some how I love it. It has the flavour of home ...” One hundred years later it’s time to remember what Canada’s most famous author said about Bala. Her words should be displayed all over town.
As we write this, the Ontario government has just relaxed some of its Covid 19 restrictions. That makes us hopeful that we can schedule an Everything Anne Day in July. We also hope that our Cran-Anne Contest will return in October as part of the Bala Cranberry Festival. Stay tuned for confirmation that one or both will go ahead.
As we did last year, we are asking visitors to pre-book tours. We apologize that we will also continue to ask for proof of vaccination for teenagers and adults, and will ask visitors to wear masks. As some of you know, Linda has a lung disease (bronchiectasis) which has left her with 40% lung capacity. That is why we have to be extra careful.
---------------------- Admission ------------------------ $7.99 a person / $24.99 per family (limit of 4)
Book your Tour for 10:00 am or 1:30 pm

CRAN-ANNE
LOOK-ALIKE CONTEST
To be Announced
Left:
Our current Cran-Anne winner, Jorgia Kitcher, who
will carry on until it is possible to select a successor,
is a very special young lady.
After finishing second in the contest at the age of 6, Jorgia prepared for the next year by reading both Anne of Green Gables and its sequel, Anne of Avonlea, with the help of her mother. She blew the judges away by how well she was prepared the second time around. We have been very proud to have her as our Cran-Anne over the last three years.
We are very grateful to Jorgia Kitcher, our 2018-19 winner, for carrying on until our next Cran-Anne Look-Alike contest, which we hope will be this October during the Bala Cranberry Festival. |
