 Winning Legacy Award

There is no doubt about the highlight of 2024 for our little museum.

On June 23rd we received a top LMM award at the University of Prince Edward Island for “outstanding contributions to Montgomery scholarship”.

The closing highlight of the conference was the presentation of the Legacy Award for our "contributions to Montgomery scholarship and
public engagement” for over the last 32 years.

We were honoured to receive the Legacy Award and even more so when it was presented to us by the Lieutenant-Governor of the province,  Her Honour Antionette Perry.

Lucy Maud Montgomery Heritage Destination
We are now a Literary Landmark!
2022 was a banner year for Bala as we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s arriving in Bala in July, 1922.  Our museum was the tourist home called Treelawn where Montgomery and family had their meals.  The two weeks spent in Bala inspired LMM to write The Blue Castle, a coming-of-age novel and Muskoka love story set entirely in Muskoka!
We are honoured to have a plaque that designates the former Treelawn Tourist Home as a Heritage Property withn the Township of Muskoka Lakes.
